For eight consecutive mornings, between July 7 and 14, hundreds of runners along with a herd of bulls race through the streets of Pamplona in the famous "running of the bulls" or encierro as it is known in Spanish. Although the encierro, running of the bulls, usually lasts around than three minutes, it is the most famous event of Pamplona’s eight-day, non-stop fiesta honoring the city’s patron saint, San Fermín. The 119 images in this book by photographer John Kimmich-Javier, are a selection from over 20 years of work documenting all aspects of this international fiesta: the encierros, the street life, bullfights, religious events, and nightlife.
