Informazioni sul libro
Foreword by Kay Kassirer
Mona Mousa opened her arms and home to me the first day I met her, and has kept them open ever since. Mona is one of those people who has propelled past friend and become family. Her warmth and kindness can be felt just by reading her words, or hearing her voice. We have never lived in the same city but that didn’t stop us from growing close quickly.
Mona’s poetry is the kind of poetry that picks you up, sits you down, and reminds you to listen carefully. It teaches important lessons while giving you a hug and reminding you that you are loved.
With lines such as
“My body has become anything but a temple
It is a paper box
With a sign that reads free to a good home”
and
“My mother brought life into a world she couldn’t understand
Told me when I was barely old enough to understand
To never let them silence me
She said to see veins in my hand when I write
Is proof that our stories reside in my blood”
Lace, Coconut Oil, and Coffee is a beautiful collection of stories about identity, intimacy, and soul-baring honesty. Mona digs deep into what it means to exist and live as Mona, she leads by example, and is not afraid to explore new territory. Mona’s work has taught me so much, I look forward to all of the magic that will enter people's lives through this book.
