A childhood spent playing in the woods next to her Demarest, New Jersey home cultivated a respect for wildlife and nature. She lived in & designed gardens in Manhattan's Hell's Kitchen for 18 years, wrote Garden Your City, then moved north to the Hudson Valley.

An historic garden designer, author, and lecturer, Barbara Hobens enjoys her 1890 home, garden, stream, pets, and wildlife.

She served as Historian of the Town of Hyde Park (2016 & 17) and President (2018) and Board of Directors (2016-18) of F.W. Vanderbilt Garden Assoc, - Vanderbilt Mansion.
