The book documents traditional life in Mayan and Garifuna communities in southern Belize. The photographer lived in three villages during January, 2007. He donated photos used in this book to EcoLogic Development Fund to help further EcoLogic's conservation programs in the villages and rainforest of southern Belize.



Recently, in an historic ruling, the Belize Supreme Court recognized the traditional land rights of these indigenous communities, barring unauthorized oil exploration and land development on their pristine land.

Todd Shapera is a sensitive, versatile, and worldy photographer. He documents humble life in remote locations, as well as special weddings and celebrations in greater New York. He has photographed in 56 countries, in some of the world's most remote locations, for leading global foundations and publications. Globally, Todd was selected for three International WEDAWARD portfolios in 2016. WEDAWARDs feature only 3% of monthly submissions from photographers worldwide. Nationally, for three consecutive years, Wedding Wire has given Todd Shapera it’s Couples’ Choice award based on terrific bridal reviews -- a recognition reserved for only 5% of Wedding Wire photographers nationally. Todd's wedding photography has also been featured in the New York Times VOWs column, as well as Westchester Weddings, Destination Weddings, New York Weddings and other magazines. Todd teaches photography workshops at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund's Kykuit Estate in Tarrytown.
