Informazioni sul libro
Danube Swabians are a culture without a country, with an oral language that is quickly disappearing. For hundreds of years, these German settlers lived in Eastern Europe until the events of WWII forced evacuation or internment in labour and concentration camps. Today Danube Swabians and their descendants are spread across the world.
Together Katharina and Monica have documented many of the recipes for foods eaten by Danube Swabians in Yugoslavia and later in Canada. Using readily available ingredients and North American measures they have written an easy-to-follow guide that lets readers recreate these foods. Throughout the book, they share their memories of the Danube Swabian culture and describe how food reflected their everyday lives and their celebrations in Yugoslavia and later in Canada.
