Informazioni sul libro
Along with one of my fellow students, Tony Moran, we decided to go to the United States of America during the summer vacation and base some of our projects on our travels. We arranged our trip through the British Universities student exchange, which included a four year work permit. Our plan was to spend a period working and a period travelling around the country. I worked at a restaurant in Virginia Beach for about four weeks and then set off on my travels across country visiting as many States as I could in the remaining six weeks. On my departure I was deeply moved to be presented with a $100 travel voucher for 'Greyhound Lines', which enabled me to visit many more places than I originally planed. By travelling and sleeping overnight on the Greyhound buses I was able to save on overnight accommodation and used the coach stations facilities for a 'wash and brush up'. In addition to this I also took advantage of a scheme where American families would offer to meet visiting foreign students, give them tours of the local area, and also give them free food and overnight accommodation in their homes. An amazing scheme which I am sure wouldn't be repeated in these present times.
Throughout my travels I met so many wonderfully kind and generous people who made my trip one of the highlights of my life. Fifty years on I feel these images now have both a social and historical interest and present a snapshot of American life in the seventies.

Peter studied photography at Derby College of Art and qualified with a diploma in creative photography in 1973. He spent most of his working life as an advertising and fashion photographer, mixed with a stint driving buses. He spent a decade using his spare time traveling around Europe in a motorhome and supplying images to a picture library. He has an extensive collection of photographs, taken both in the early part of his career and whilst traveling, which now have both historical and social interest and he hopes will be enjoyed by others.
