Despite the relative hardships of the era, the family appeared to enjoy everyday life. They had annual holidays near the beach and train excursions to the hills. Prawning in the Swan River was another highlight of recreation. Prawns were cooked on the shore and afterwards the group would walk back to their home in Leederville,Western Australia.
