Rahid Arshed is the earliest exponent of “Contemporary Calligraphic Paintings”, a movement inspired by Islamic calligraphy. Arhsed visualizes the written word as ‘Texture’ and explores its aesthetics, rather than its literal connotations. The book contains 121 unique images of Arshed’s paintings, in which the written word has been transformed into a painting, complete with space and atmosphere.

Rashid Arshed

Rashid Arshed is a visual artist and a writer. He has a Master’s in History, and studied Art at Parsons School of Design, Rutgers University, and at the National College of Art, Lahore. Arshed has authored seven books in English, including 'About Art and Life,' 'An Autobiography,' 'Uncle Sam on Trial,' 'A Political Satire,' 'ID of a Terrorist,' and 'Chasing Axis of Evil.' Arshed’s work has been shown in art galleries and museums across the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, and his paintings are in numerous collections, including the Chaffey Community Museum of Art, Ontario, California; the National Art Gallery, Islamabad; and the Hundal Collection, Chicago.
