Janice G. Schimmelman is Professor Emerita of Art History at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan. She is a scholar of nineteenth-century American art and photography. Her research has been published by the American Philosophical Society, the American Antiquarian Society, Oak Knoll Press, G. K. Hall, and the Winterthur Portfolio. She is the author of The Tintype in America 1856-1880 and American Photographic Patents 1840-1880.
