In December 2010 Burkhard Schittny (born 1966) began a multi-part series of documentary and conceptual works about the battlefields in which his father had served, and about his mother’s expulsion from Silesia as a consequence of World War II. Driven by his interest in people’s psychological background and the fear and trauma of war, Schittny set out on a long journey to create photographic after-images. Combined under the title ‘Legacy Of Fear - The War Within Me’, it is a journey into the history of his own family, into the history of World War II, into the traumas of uncertainty and powerlessness.
