Informazioni sul libro
In this parody, Hamlet is a mentally unbalanced prince who does not understand the unspoken arrangements within the royal family. Everyone in the castle knows that the marriage between Hamlet’s parents, the king and queen, was for public consumption. While the queen maintained her royal marriage to the much older king, privately she was essentially married to the king’s brother. The king, being unable to father children himself, was only too happy to have his brother and his wife provide him with a son/nephew to continue the royal line. Although this kind of arrangement may not be so unusual among royalty, Hamlet is incapable of reading between the lines. No one dares to tell the prince that the king is not really his father. When the queen marries Hamlet’s uncle so soon after the death of the king, Hamlet has a complete mental breakdown. He now speaks Shakespearean English and believes he is living in a past era of Danish history.
