This book is the result of 4-years intensive research. It examines the development of a naval squadron, militia army and coastal artillery forts at Port Phillip in the British colony of Victoria, Australia between 1856-1945. It also examines the links to European conflicts and colonialism. The era encompassed the introduction of steam powered & iron-clad warships, gun boats, fish-torpedoes, electrical minefields, disappearing guns and concrete emplacements.
