The Project:
The Welcome To The NeighborHOOD Project is a community arts project lead by Wendy Testu: A residency over the past year has lead the youth interns to create work about their personal experiences, gentrification and displacement, the opposing forces of man vs. nature, art as activism, the positive people and influences in their community and the environmental and social justice issues facing the community of the Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood of San Francisco.
The artwork has been installed in interactive fort installations for the Sargent Johnson Gallery in the African American Arts And Culture Complex, Zeum: San Francisco's Children's Museum and at Art 94124 in San Francisco.
In the summer of 2010 the work traveled to The EcoCenter in Herons Head Park (San Francisco’s first public off-the-grid building). See Volume #3 for the final installation images at the EcoCenter.
This small book documents the journey we have been on.
Every meeting was filmed and photographed in order to create this book and a documentary film and to serve as a reminder of the process we went through and ultimately to reflect upon what we learned from each other.
Please use this book as your journal and continue the process in your own way.
