Informazioni sul libro
In 2011, after my husbands deployment to Sangin, Afghanistan, him, families ,and 2nd EOD Company had lost some of their closest brothers. I set myself on a mission to personally photograph and personally interview the EOD techs at Camp Lejeune of their history and meaning of their tattoos. Since, many men had received new ones upon returning from that deployment. The word had spread, and shortly after I was traveling all across the East Coast, throughout many military bases, spending days at Walter Reed, as well as going to Destin, and spending time photographing and interviewing, one on one EOD Techs from past, present, as well as their widows. All brotherhood and sisterhood throughout all the military branches. I had emails and photographs from EOD Techs who were currently deployed, as well as stationed in Japan. I wanted their stories to be heard and the stigma of tattoo's to bring a matter and cause to much more, and the meaning to be much more than a "piece of ink." I wanted to know the stories of these men and women. I wanted people to know their stories, not their assumptions of who these people were. Some had never spoken about their tattoos, and who they were for, and what the details meant to them. For some of them, it was a therapeutic session, for some it was the story of a fallen family member, for some, it was the last words they did not get to say. They were forever immortalized in these photographs. Not only the people of the stories told, but the people who bared their skin and showed their stories. This book is very raw, and their words were kept the way they went into my recorder. That was one thing I promised to them. I kept that promise, and here it is, Revealed.
