Informazioni sul libro
The artist's own face is a subject that is always at hand, but working with it is a strange and very intimate business. "Know thyself" was inscribed on the Apollo's temple in Delphi, implying that it's not an easy task -- and, incidentally, Apollo was a patron of the arts. Do we know ourselves? Do we know what we are capable of? Does the face in the mirror reveal our inner self or does it conceal it like a mask? When the artist imagines what she could have looked like, does she try a mask on or does she reconstruct her true face? Kazanskaya's self-portrait based works do not seek superficial likeness, but rather explore a range of possibilities for how she could bend this familiar image in the mirror conceptually and artistically.
