At the end of 2019, a new type of corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) spread from China and reached other continents in a few weeks. As a result, the virus triggered a worldwide pandemic (COVID-19) in early 2020. In Europe, some regions in Italy were affected particularly early and also very badly. In order to stop the exponential spread of illnesses, drastic measures were ordered across Europe and worldwide. The public life was shut down, cities were deserted and there was hardly any traffic. After a few weeks, the situation improved and Italy opened its borders on June 3, 2020. This was a unique opportunity to experience Venice without the usual mass tourism and to be able to photograph the silent, almost deserted city. So I went there a few days after the border opened. The images shown were all taken between June 11th and 13th, 2020, with classic analog cameras on black and white film.
