The story materialized after teaching first grade for nine years. Each year I would introduce the standard ELAGSE1RI5: Know and use various text features (e-g., headings, tables of content, glossaries, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text in this fun and relatable way to my students. I found that they were very receptive and thought I should put it in story form.
