Informazioni sul libro
Zinc oxide is an ingredient in certain creams and ointments used to prevent or treat acne, minor skin burns, and irritation.
Although zinc oxide overdose occurs when someone accidentally or intentionally consumes it, there is no evidence of significant toxicity, however, with intensive usage there can possibly be a certain degree of toxicity especially if there are underlying conditions.
In this particular case, the patient had severe systemic toxicity secondary to acute viral kidney infection induced by the overuse of zinc oxide ointment, which delayed his recovery. This suggests zinc oxides harmlessness to be underestimated.
