For those of you who haven't yet experienced Hogmanay with "the Land, the Light, the Locals" you will be sure to receive a very warm welcome. The event started in 1999 as a Scottish Borders Tourist Board initiative to develop a programme of music to highlight the beauty of the Borders and to promote its musicians to a wider audience, outwith the peak season.
Visitors get to know the locals and musicians and experience the special atmosphere and spirit of the Borders. Events include concerts, sessions in pubs and hotels, a ceilidh and a walk on New Year's Pay, with the venues varying from year to year. The wealth of Borders musicians mean that new performers join with the old and all are encouraged to join in and enjoy.
Sadly, the event organiser, Kenny Spiers writes in January 2025 "after 26 years I feel it has run its course".

Ian Oliver Photography
Scottish Borders
I have always had an interest in photography, but this interest only became more serious in 2001, when I had a number of trips to the Lake District where my enthusiasm was re-kindled. I then joined Galashiels Camera Club, and the Royal Photographic Society. I current hold a Licentiateship with the RPS. I have also had a number of acceptances in National and International Photographic Exhibitions. The landscape of my home area of the Borders and elsewhere, and the amazing effect nature has on it, in the way of light and weather, is what I hope to capture in my work.
