In fine weather, life is lived on the loggia; breakfast al fresco melting into languorous afternoons of reading and conversation (when not sightseeing), aperitivos, dinner and culminating with laughter by candle and moonlight.



Brilliant sunshine and its penetrating heat would inch its way across the loggia’s terra cotta floors warming it on its daily march. The leaves of the grapevine valiantly fought to give us shade. But when their fluttering shadows were defeated by the bright light, we would retreat into the coolness of indoors, a wander through the garden in search of shade or visit to the fountain to pet Alphonso, the resident carp and a cool douse of its sporadic splash.
