In 2007 double champion Matt Neal was unable to make it three in a row. Instead SEAT ace Jason Plato went head to head with Vauxhall rival, Italian Fabrizio Giovanardi. The pair were engaged in a season-long dogfight, although for the most part Plato had the edge. It went down to the wire at the last race at the season finale, and the Italian emerged victorious at the end by a mere three points. Team RAC's Colin Turkington fought off fierce competition from Mike Jordan and Mat Jackson to clinch the Independents' title, from a long field of privateers.



The Porsche Carrera Cup was equally as close, with James Sutton, Tim Harvey and Stephen Kane all picking up double-header wins. But ultimately it was rookie Sutton who took the title at his first attempt.
