Since more than 100 years the Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian Railways provide an unforgettable journey for local and foreign travellers through Russia, Mongolia and China.



Despite the fact that nowadays' political circumstances and globalization allow many more foreigners to enjoy the experience, a Trans-Siberian trip in winter is still a relatively lonesome and adventurous affair.



Berlin born and Sydney based photographer Deborah Abeßer followed the Railway for 4 weeks on Transit between Europe and Australia.



The journey starts in St. Petersburg and ends on the last day of Chinese New Year in Beijing.



The images in this book display a winter journey of transition from west to east, of changing faces, landscapes, architecture, contrasts and colors.

Deborah Abeßer
Berlin

Berlin born photographer Deborah Abeßer developed her skills and passion in visual arts while working in the European Film industry and completing her Masters degree at the University of Arts, Berlin.  Between studying and professional projects she followed her fascination to explore exotic destinations such as Central America, the Middle East and South East Asia during which she learnt to sharpen her eye for travel photography. It was upon being awarded a scholarship to study Photomedia at the College of Fine Arts in Sydney that she decided to move to Australia. Deborah lives and works as a commercial photographer in Sydney, taking any opportunity to travel, observe and document the world with her camera. Her latest journey has taken her to Russia, Mongolia and China on the Trans-Siberian Railway in early 2011.
