Yemen, one of the world's oldest countries with, it is claimed, the longest permanently inhabited city. And yet, after thousands of years they are still at war. These images are from just before the current civil war, though even then much of the country was inaccessible and much required an armed escort.
Quite beautiful all the same, with one of the world's most amazing cities, Shibam, the Manhattan of the desert.
