This unpublished design book is a collection of assignments for the spring 2012 Senior Graphic Design Thesis class of Professor Matthew Gaynor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.



For the first three chapters of this book I was asked to choose three themes and take one hundred photos of each theme. I choose pattern, typography and light to be able to work with subject matter that is integral to the practice of graphic design. In the corresponding text, I explore what these three paramount creative components mean to me as well how I feel they fit within this ever changing world we live in.



For the final chapter of this book, two of the previous themes—pattern and light—were synthesized into a new theme. Again for this new combined topic one hundred images were photographed. Text was then written to describe the combination of these subjects.



All photographs were taken on a Nikon D50 D-SLR using 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens. Photos were edited when needed using Adobe Photoshop CS4 and the layout was completed in Adobe InDesign CS4.
