The existential Confucius proposes that the unique privilege of the human being, departing from other life forms, invites us to participate in the making of our special destiny. The first essay in the book explores the key statements in the Confucian Canon, which not only state that our given condition includes the option to accord with our nature, but also gives a guide map. From this map we can assess the validity of not only the different components of the psyche, but also their sequential placement, relative to their basic functions. To adhere to the suggested advice to work with this sequence yields optimal psychic health. The second essay explores the strategic foundation of one's growth, which occurs in the mother-child dyad.
