This book is a photographic tribute to two groups of workers who underpinned Britain's industrial base, miners and steam railwaymen. The photographs were shot in South Wales, Yorkshire and the West Midlands between 1967 and 1975.

Nick Hedges has been a documentary photographer for nearly 50 years. He has worked in the field of social affairs with a number of voluntary organisations. His work is in the collections of the National Media Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and is archived at the Central Library, Birmingham.
