Informazioni sul libro
A book documenting 16-months working with Afghan police and soldiers in Helmand province, from February 2012-June 2013.
I was a photojournalist with NATO, living on Camp Leatherneck and traveling all over one of the most violent corners of a violent country, Helmand. The challenges in Helmand are a microcosm of what the US-led alliance faced in that country during the most recent of wars: environmental, cultural, geographic, language.
To start the withdrawal process of America's longest war, President Obama surged in US troops and ISAF, the NATO-led alliance of militaries in Afghanistan, stood up NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. I arrived in Helmand and quickly got to work documenting the hand off to Afghan-led security. It was a long 16 months but worth the time away from home.
Inside these pages you'll get a look into training and mentoring of Afghan soldiers and police, portraits of NATO troopers and Afghans, signs of the slow teardown of the US presence in Helmand, and my transient life moving about the province.
With an introduction by John D. McHugh, a photojournalist who spent many years covering the Afghanistan war.
Available in hardback, softcover and as a pdf ebook.
