Today in the United States there are roughly 1,570,000 inmates serving time in federal and state prisons. Society is less forgiving to those who have been convicted and are incarcerated. Combining letters written from an inmate with photographs of his personal belongings and the places he occupied, From This Side of the Fence asks viewers to see him as a complex person to understand how spending time behind the walls of a prison has forever changed him.
