Informazioni sul libro
Beyond the main centre of population, Stornoway, habitation on the Isle of Lewis is sparse. Away from the coastal margins the landscape is vast, typified by extensive peat bog indented with numerous lochans. In such relatively featureless and remote topography there may be a heightened desire for people to define a sense of place for themselves. Bright primary colours and handmade signs are evident. There is an inventiveness, sometimes playful, with which objects, past their original usefulness, are re-employed in the expression of a characteristic individualism.
