----
The Daily Forty-Niner has been the authoritative source of news at CSULB since its inception 60 years ago in 1949. When students and staff alike seek out and pick up a paper from the familiar black boxes, all they see are the articles and the names: 33 names in the staff box on Page 4 of every edition.
Those 33 staffers...for the most part, they are anonymous. Most readers do not know who they are, their dreams and aspirations, or what goes on in the newsroom: the long hours, the crises, and the race against time to copy-edit and lay out the pages of the paper.
Once the year is gone...not only do they remain anonymous, they become forgotten. The staffers, once graduated, venture out into the real world, and then two, three years out, nobody remembers who the editor-in-chief was, or the managing editor, or even what happened that year.
Until now.
Asst. Photo Editor Michael Chan Yee has compiled his photographs inside and outside the newsroom, articles, and pieces detailing what happened behind the scenes. It is the definitive statement of who the 2008-2009 staff was, what articles they published, and what happened in the newsroom itself.
