Informazioni sul libro
In his book “Indulgences”, Ron Hutton, ASID Interior Designer and Artist shares his spiritual, physical, and intellectual journey of self discovery, delight, and survival of the artist within. In this, his first book, the artist shares his journey by featuring highlights of his ceramic artwork, accompanied by poetry and essays that describe the emotional, artistic, and physical experiences of his artistic creations. The essays and poems are often written after the final firings. The author shares these experiences of self discovery and self exposure the clay brings about, often exposing hidden emotions and fears within the artist himself. Concept drawings and paintings of the pieces are featured and enhance the shared experience of the artist’s creative journey. “Indulgences” includes pieces that have exhibited in galleries, pieces that are currently being juried for exhibition, and pieces that are currently available on his website.
Our existence in this world allows no time or respect for the artistic endeavor. Acknowledging, making time for, and encouraging the artist within us are seen as indulgent. The artist Ron Hutton would argue that these “indulgences” can change life from a struggle and survival to one of delicious and indulgent, thriving.

My work exposes me to me. Total abandonment, unashamed and unafraid; these are the emotions I experience when I work with the clay. In my work I see my soul, my hidden fears and my anger. Innocent, beautiful, and tender we arrive in this world. My pieces are burned and have crusts. None of these outcomes are intentional and yet my inner soul is revealed, this is what I mean by revealing myself to me. The soul cannot hide when the spirit creates.
