In May 2017 we travelled to the west coast of Scotland along the Road to the Isles, Rathad nan Eilean. Our initial destination was Arisaig (Scottish Gaelic: Àrasaig) and thence to Back of Keppoch (Cùl na Ceapaich). We lived for three weeks at Kinneddar Lodges at Back of Keppoch, where Colin painted and Catherine assisted our hosts, Tim and Mary Stanning, with maintenance work on the lodges and grounds.
In painting this series of paintings, the landscape became more than a view of the land—it became an expression of this prevailing sense of connection and dispossession.
