With diligent research methods and detective work, Melvin Holmes was able to curate a collection of works by African American artists representing a wide range of styles and spanning the years 1860-2012. His collection is presented in this book, along with essays from Saranah Walden, Holmes's daughter; Thom Pegg, owner and director of Tyler Fine Art, St. Louis, MO; and biographical information about the artists.
