Informazioni sul libro
Cut-up barcodes, words, nametags, parcel tape, packaging materials and band aids: these are some of the materials Brazilian artist Marcelo de Melo has worked with in his series ‘Bag Tag Loop’.
Closely related to de Melo’s previous work in mosaic, what we see here are playful, seemingly naïve collages, with repeated and combined patterns, shapes and colors.
‘Bag Tag Loop’ works on multiple, contesting levels: as playful collage, as invitations to think beyond the materials’ parameters, but also, and not in the least, to ponder the vulnerability of each and every lived human life.

I am a Brazilian artist and author currently living and working in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In my artistic practice, found materials and objects are used to generate meaning in a non-hierarchical manner. Methodologically, the ‘deleuzian rhizome’ functions as a model for artistic experimentation, which underlines the transfunctionality of art, a concept central to my research. It is a practice of combining and reordering things informed by personal experience. My books are an extension of my practice and serve as documentation of my output.
